Mt Cook Tour & Heli Hike Combo from Queenstown
Experience the incredible beauty of the Southern Alps with a helicopter flight that will take you on a journey to see the stunning Aoraki Mt. Cook and Tasman Glacier from above. But that’s not all! You’ll also have the chance to hike on the glacier itself with expert guides who will share with you the natural and cultural significance of this incredible place.
What To Expect
Starting in the picturesque city of Queenstown, your tour guide will guide you through the city and point out all the highlights on your way out. As you make your way through the Kawarau Gorge, you’ll see the famous Roaring Meg Lookout and the Kawarau Suspension Bridge. Don’t forget your camera, as you may find the perfect shot for your social media!
As you leave the gorge behind, you’ll enter the fruit and wine growing region of Cromwell. Cross Lake Dunstan and follow its beauty towards the Lindis Pass. This pass offers some of the most breathtaking views of the valleys below, and you’ll stop at the lookout for some essential photos.
While driving through the endless plains of the Mackenzie district, you’ll have the chance to spot some of the famous Merino breed of sheep before stopping at the quaint township of Omarama. Take a break and try the best creamy chicken pie in NZ (in our opinion)!
Turning west, you’ll enter the Aoraki National Park, and Lake Pukaki will emerge in front of you. This stunning lake is framed by Aoraki/Mt Cook and the Southern Alps, offering an incredible sight. You’ll stop for some amazing photos, and if you’re a Lord of the Rings fan, we’ll point out some of the nearby filming locations!
Now it’s time for the adventure of a lifetime – a Tasman Glacier Heli Hike! Check-in and get ready for an unforgettable experience as you fly to your drop-off point on a remote part of the glacier. Follow your guide as they cut steps in the glacier, and explore the amazing ice formations. You’ll also get to see Aoraki/Mt Cook from a different perspective with stunning scenic helicopter fly-bys.
After your flight, you’ll arrive at the Mt Cook Village, where you can marvel at the stunning views of Aoraki/Mt Cook from the ground. At 3724m, Aoraki/Mt Cook is New Zealand’s highest peak, and you’ll get to see it without any acclimatisation whatsoever from the village, which is just 750m above sea level.
On your way back to Queenstown, you’ll stop at High Country Salmon, a local salmon farm, where you can feed the fish and taste some of the freshest salmon in New Zealand. And during the summer months, you’ll also have the chance to stop at Mrs Jones Suncrest Orchard and try some delicious local fruit or real fruit ice cream.
